Cruz de Ferros is only 2kms away so we arrived just as a brilliant dawn was breaking (which was bad new). It is the highest point of the Camino and the views are spectacular. Maggie had a special picture of Enrtique to tie yo the Iron Cross and I had my pebble from home. From there it was downhill all the way to Ponferrada in the pouring rain. At El Alcebo I met a Capetonian who also had to buy new shoes in Leon after walking in rain for 2 days). I wore my new sandals all day and they were great. For some strange reason the Camino trail takes you all around the perimeter of the city before you actually get into it so distances were deceptive and much longer than expected. There is only 1 albergue in Ponferrada so we met up again with everyone from the previous night but have now lost them as we stop at Cacabelos which is 16 km and they move further on. One gets tired of pilgrims meals so we went to the Dia, the local supermarket, and bought something to cook. We are in as 4 bedded room but there are only 3 of us.
